I have a shameful secret to confess. Until 2018, I still used traditional dishwasher pods. DON’T LOOK AT ME!
I made it my mission to remove the last of the chemical laden products from my home after having 1/2 of my thyroid removed (more on that here) and I did it!
I have two recipes to share with you because the results were split down the middle with my group of VIP recipe testers.
PRO TIP: In addition to using these non-toxic dishwasher tabs, add distilled white vinegar to the rinse cycle!
Homemade Dishwasher Tablets is just one of the recipes included in our "Squeaky Clean" plant-based cleaning, ditch-and-switch project. You can view the complete essential oil DIY project by clicking on the link above and you will find the individual recipes at the bottom of this post.
RECIPE ONE
SUPPLIES:
"Squeaky Clean" Printables
Silicone Mold
16oz. Mason Jars
1 cup of Super Washing Soda
1/4 cup of Salt (fine ground)
1/2 cup Citric Acid
40 drops of Lemon
2-3 TBSP Water
YIELDS:
24 Dishwasher Tablets
INSTRUCTIONS:
• Mix all the ingredients together in a mixing bowl, being sure to break up any clumps.
• SLOWLY spray 2-3 tablespoons water into mixture a little at a time, stirring as you spray the water. You don’t want to add the water too quickly or you will activate the washing soda and citric acid. You want the consistency of slightly damp sand. It should stay together when you squeeze it between your fingers, but crumble when you put it down.
• Spoon the mixture into a silicone mold. Use the back of a spoon and to firmly press the mixture into the mold. You want it nice and compacted.
• Let them dry for 24 hours. Once they are completely dry, pop them gently out of mold and store in an airtight container
